Our Goal
- It is the goal of elementary physical education to give every student the opportunity to experience a multitude of activities to enhance motor learning, cognitive concepts, social skills, and body control, as well as sports skills.
- To accomplish this goal during our limited class time, a student needs to be prepared with proper athletic shoes. It is also important that the student participate in class to the best of their ability.
What if my child is sick or injured?
- Please communicate with me if a student has an injury and/or is under the care of a physician that will require the student to abstain from participation for more than one week or two class sessions, a note from the physician is required.
- The note should include:
- Type of restriction
- The amount of time student is restricted
- Date when student may return to full participation
This information is important to share with me to make sure the student is not participating in an activity that could jeopardize their health. Sometimes students feel better or see a great activity that we are doing in class and want to join, but are recommended by a health professional to remain inactive. I want to ensure that students are healing properly. Please contact me if you have any concerns.
What if you forgot your shoes?
There is a box full of extra shoes for students to wear if they forgot adequate footwear. I also have clean socks if necessary. The sizes are limited and may not always be available. It is a first come first serve basis. It is recorded when a student borrows shoes because they tend to miss out on both their warm-up activity and instructional time.
The activities that students are asked to participate in require their feet to be covered and must allow students to safely move throughout the gym and outside. If a student wears flip flops, for example, it would not be safe for them to play in a game of basketball. Depending on the activity they may be asked to sit out, keep score, or referee a game.
